Niklas Backstrom wins Toyota Three Stars Award and donates it to 21forKids
At the conclusion of each of the Wild's 42 home games, three stars of the game are chosen and tabulated. The Toyota Three Star Award is awarded to the Wild player who accumulates the most Three Stars of the Game points during the 2007-08 season. The Minnesota Wild and Toyota will donate $5,000 on behalf of the winning player to a charity of their choice during an on-ice postgame check presentation. Previous winners are Marian Gaborik (2006-07), Brian Rolston (2005-06), Dwayne Roloson (2002-03, 2003-04), Marian Gaborik (2001-02) and Manny Fernandez (2000-01). Niklas Backstrom can be added to this prestigious list of players as the 2007-08 Toyota Three Stars Award Winner. Backstrom's charity of choice was Wild's own Mark Parrish's 21forKids Foundation. "Nik did a great job for us again this year and deserved this award", Parrish stated. "I was floored to hear that he donated to 21forKids. It just shows what a great guy and team player Nik is!"
Parrish attends Camp Oz, donates $40,000 check on behalf of HockeyDocs/21forKids
Mark Parrish made a surprise visit to the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota's Camp Oz in June. Because of the donation by HockeyDocs/21forKids, the fee for Camp Oz was only $200 in 2008! "Its HockeyDocs/21forKids mission to make Camp Oz free to anyone that wants to attend." states Parrish. "HockeyDocs/21forKids is proud to support Camp Oz. All of the money raised through our Foundations is given back to the kids of Minnesota." Camp Oz offers a chance to spend time away from home, participate in a variety of recreational activiities and make new friends. Kids and teens with seizues (and their siblings or friends), ages 8-18, are welcome to attend. Camp oz is fun and safe! It combines a traditinal camp experience with the security of a specially trained medical and behavioral staff. Families feel at ease knowing that their child will be well cared for at Oz. For information about Camp Oz or if you have questions about epilepsy, please contact the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota at 651-287-2310 or toll-free 1-800-779-0777 ext. 2310 or go to www.EFMN.org.
HockeyDocs / 21forKids donate $10,000 to Minnesota Special Hockey
Minnesota Special Hockey exists for the enrichment of the athlete with a developmental disability. In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individual characteristics such as dependability, self-reliance, concentration, willingness to share and personal accountability. The game of hockey is used by Special Hockey to develop within each player the characteristics that will help the player to be more successful both inside and outside a hockey environment.
